US History Ideas is moving to Substack!

Hello old fans and anyone who has stumbled on this blog.

I am a U.S. history teacher living in Chicago. I just got back from an amazing 4 days at the 104th National Council for the Social Studies annual conference.

Photo from session at 104th NCSS Convention in Boston.

I didn't keep count, but the number of times I heard about social studies teachers being on the front lines of our democracy, the imperative of civics education and saw or heard statistics like the one on the chart below was noteworthy.

This renewed my commitment to writing about history education, but on Substack, where I hope I will reach more people.

While I'm not actively working on this blog, I do get notifications if you comment. So if you find links on this blog that no longer work or need help finding something, you can leave a comment. You can also reach out to me via Substack or LinkedIn. Feel free to reach out if you have follow up questions or want more specific information on how I have used any of the resources in this blog, set up lessons or units.

This blog is mostly a chronological march through U.S. history, while some posts are topical or thematic (e.g. using film in history class, how to handle current events and other pedagogical concerns). The table of contents will help you find what you need.
